"There are places in the world that do not feel empty when
you stand alone in them
They do not feel abandoned or
quiet in the ordinary sense
Instead, they seem occupied by
something that cannot easily be explained"

Synopsis Factual Supernatural relates real-life encounters with paranormal phenomena that defy conventional explanation.
These are thirteen ghostly paranormal real-life
experiences that took place in Newborough
Forest, Anglesey, North Wales.
They happened to me when I was Warden of
Newborough and Ynys Llanddwyn.
Introduction NEWBOROUGH FOREST
The Storm notoriously buried parts of New-borough on
Anglesey, North Wales. Occurring around 1331-1332;
burying the royal court of Llys Rhosyr and surrounding
agricultural land under deep sand dunes.
I first learned of this in 1988 when I came to live on the edge
of Newborough Forest; and I find it fascinating.
This catastrophic event, along With subsequent wind-blown
sand, transformed the landscape and crippled the area for
centuries. It was actually a series of extremely violent storms
that occurred during this period, dumping massive amounts
Of sand across the region.
An area estimated at 150 football pitches was covered,
including the royal court of Llywelyn Fawr (Llywelyn the
Great) at Llys Rhosyr.
Eight farm cottages were buried, forcing farmers to abandon
their land, and it severely silted the River Ffraw. The area
remained buried for over 600 years before being partially
excavated in the 1990s by Gwynedd Archaeological Trust.
However long before 1990 1 could wander through the
Forest and discover the uncovered ruins of farm cottages.
These had been naturally revealed by time and erosion. They
are truly an amazing site but you do have to know where to
look to fully appreciate them.
There is very little I don't know about Newborough Forest.
The area is still defined by its shifting sands today, with
intense winter storms often shifting large volumes of sand,
affecting both the beach and the adjacent Newborough Forest.
Stomh Isha and Jocelyn in January 2024 were blamed
for removing sand from the beach and depositing it in the
car park, turning a golden beach into a rocky area. Storm
Imogen in 2016 was recorded as a "sand eater" storm, which
combined With spring tides to create high sand cliffs.
To combat this ongoing issue, Newborough Forest was
planted between 1947 and 1965 primarily to stabilise the
shifting sand dunes and protect the village.
In November 2022 a storm left a bay near Newborough
covered in a thick of sea foam, making the area look
like a snowscape. Storm Darragh in 2024 caused significant
wind damage to trees on the edge of the Forest, particularly
affecting areas near previous felling sites.
The coastline remains in a state of continuous change and
the area is still known for high sand incursion that can trap
vehicles in the main car park.
However it is an absolutely stunning area. It's easy to see why they
film such things as "House of the Dragon" here - it is a
truly magical, haunted mystical and above all breathtaking location.

Almost physical
It waits
It listens"
